before i say a word about my fanatical indulgence to professional
basketball and the lakers let me say
on a personal note
it's always personal note anyways
that i am very excited that barak obama has clinched the democratic
nomination
and that i am proud to be an american today
this is the most important election of my lifetime
and barak offers more hope for our country than any other
presidential candidate in my lifetime
the u.s.a. is doing the right thing, barak obama is the demoratic
candidate for president of the united states
yay!
horaay!
the los angeles lakers of southern california are truly a dynamic
group of young men
they are intense and kobe like, wily and pau like, emotional and
lamar like, solid and derek fisher like, wild and rony like, nutty
and sasha and vladimir like, sensible and luke like, young and farmar
like, and so on
these guys are my second favorite basketball team of all time
my first favorite being the one that had magic johnson, kareem abdul
jabbar, the great big game james worthy, michael cooper, byron scott,
kurt rambis, and so on......
this current basketball team that comprises the los angeles lakers
just made short work of the san antonio spurs in the third round of
the national basketball association playoffs
i am very excited for them and for all the many thousands of lakers
fans which include myself, and patricia urban (who has a crush on
derek fisher, no offense candace, patricia urban is my mom),
just some of the multitudes of serious laker fans
fans who are jumping over the moon, venus, and pluto right now in
joy, and reveling in this most exciting time to be a purple and gold
bold no mold never sold never fold always told a story of great
theatre and winningness in an exciting way
.......i know, i know, flea blabbering on about how great the lakers
are again, i just can't help it!!! i just love em and we're going to
the finals!!
yee haaa!!!!
the spurs were a tough and worthy opponent
though i never like thuggish play that could hurt other players
(bruce bowen)
i do respect the spurs as a great basketball team how can i not
mostly, my favorite spur is greg popovich, he just seems like a cool
guy to me, a stand up dude, who is a great coach
and certainly he gets the best out of his players
i always thought it was rockin that devin brown played in pop's youth
basketball league, i don't know a lot about it, but i know it is a
cool basketball league so kids can be productive and stay out of
trouble................... and then he ended up playing for him again
in the pros...that's nice
but phil jackson could be my favorite man involved in the entire nba
anyways, don't go thinkin i have a soft spot for the spurs or
anything, i don't in the slightest
and the lakers waxed 'em
and i celebrated
here come the finals
and a deep welling of emotion in laker world
when i watched the lakers celtics rivalry in the 80's
i hated the celtics
i really hated them
the chili peppers used to go play in boston and get into very
antagonistic shouting matches with the crowd
we would wear laker clothes, and at one point i think anthony burnt a
celtic jersey on stage.....
it got ugly sometimes, but mostly it was in good fun
(kinda......)
anyways, my attitude now, is to love always, to not waste energy on
anger and hatred
recently, a few months ago, i was playing golf with my 2 main golfing
buddies
one of them said to me, "man i read this really great book about red
auerbach, how he used to meet with his like minded friends each week,
and how to put together a great team, it is a really brilliant book,
red auerbach was an amazing and innovative guy.....i want to give it
to you, it will inspire you"
i said to him..."if you give me that book i will burn it"
he was offended, told me i was close minded, blah blah blah
he doesn't understand!
the guy is from colorado by the way, he just doesnt know....
what is the point of being a laker fan if you don't hate the celtics
lakers fans hate celtics and celtics fans hate lakers
i am a very loving person
but this is a time when it is fun to hate
fun to hate
red auerbach is probably a great genius....
made bill russell a player/coach
but i know he talked trash about the lakers with regularity and
spewed vitriolic insults towards the purple and gold when ever he
mentioned lakers
i used to love to accuse the whole franchise of being racist,
but..darn it, red actually was the first guy to draft a black player
(chuck cooper).....(even though people burned a cross in bill
russell"s yard, the press treated him with complete disrespect while
he was constantly subject to racist abuse by the citizens of
boston.....), even though he was their greatest player
but i refuse to acknowledge red's greatness
he insulted phil, saying that phil's championships didnt mean
anything because he didn't put his teams together...what a cop out......
phil won 'em fair and square.....
phil rules and michael jordan didn't win anything til phil came along
and taught the team how to play together, same with shak and kobe
and i am pulling with all of my heart along with the rest of the true
laker fans, to shatter the 9 championship record of red's.... go phil!!!
i know those celtic fans are gonna be shouting beat la beat la beat la
and though i try to be positive to concentrate on loving the lakers
instead of hating other teams, all i have to do is think back to those
games i watched in the 80's, when mchale leveled kurt rambis, the
irritating weasel like manner of ainge, and his weird friend jerry
sichting...and i get a cold angry feeling
i have always loved kevin garnett, and paul pierce is cool dude from
l.a......but this is a battle royal and there is no time for warm
fuzziness
i think of magic throwing champagne in the air and i tingle with
happiness and joy
i imagine kareem running down the court celebrating after a dagger
skyhook, and i stand proud too be an angeleno
the 80's lakers teams were so fun and exciting and magic running
the fastbreak, and kareem's graceful skyhook..
i will never forget the joy of watching magic johnson tear down the
center of the court with byron and james on the wings, never knowing
what was gonna happen
but knowing it was gonna be real good
bringing the city together!
l.a. needs the lakers!
bringing us together!
GO LAKERS
the celtics were so stodgy and stone faced......
the showtime lakers that i grew up with are the most
beautiful
basketball team i have ever seen
the bottom line is, these teams have the deepest history and rivalry
ever in basketball
i didn't see the pre eighties lakers celtics matchups, but, i read
about 'em alright
on the sacred heart of jerry west may the lakers rise
above and win
the championship
let's do it for the great jerry west
this is the dawning of a new era
they have both had great teams throughout the years
and it is on
i think that todays lakers match up pretty well against the celtics
the lakers are playing so well right now
but honestly, i did not think the celtics would make it out of the east
and every time they have been cornered in these playoffs they have responded and won
it is gonna be tough
but these are the los angeles lakers
and we have kobe bryant
the greatest basketball coach of all time, phil jackson
and the x factor lamar odom
lamar is gonna step up and ROCK
pau is such a great player, so crafty, and an intense young man
we are deeper
we have the calmness and wisdom of fish
and los angeles loves the lakers more than wesley willis loves a
milkshake
i m preparing to watch some genius basketball
this is outstanding
go lakers
i love the lakers
